Staff Highlight: Amber

Cooperation is at the center of our cooperative business; it takes many, many hands with a variety of skills and experiences to operate a successful grocery business. This month, we are proudly featuring employees that help make our co-op run smoothly each and every day. We hope you enjoy learning more about our hard-working, passionate staff – and that it helps put a name to another friendly face that you see while you shop!

Amber has been rocking the kitchen and deli counter at the co-op for almost a year. She can whip up any recipe, roll a burrito with the best of them, and is a cleaning machine. When Amber’s not at work she likes to spend time playing guitar, riding her long board, and hanging out with her kitty Twiggy. Fun fact: She dyes her hair at least once a month, so you never know what color of the rainbow you will see her trying out next! She loves getting tattoos and is super close with her brother. Amber is a hard working individual; at the co-op, her other kitchen job, and when she helps with costumes at the Haymarket Theater. We are lucky to have Amber on our team.

Amber was nominated by a peer with the following comment:

“She can’t stop, won’t stop! Finishes the list and dominates the night. Always down to help and do new things!”

How long have you worked at Open Harvest?

Amber: I have been here since last May.

What is your favorite thing about your work shift?

Amber: The people that I work with. Being with loving, respectful, like-minded, and caring people.

What co-op product can you not get enough of at the moment?

Amber: HIPPEAS! Similar to Cheetos, but made from Certified Organic chickpeas. Light and crunchy puffs.

What does it mean to you to be part of a co-op?

Amber: Working all together to better the community around us. Making sure people are welcome here no matter what. Not working for the man. A community taking care of itself and taking care of each other.

Any final comments?

Amber: Just know that everything we do here we do with love. And a lot of respect. We care about other people!
